The Reason
Climate change is one of the defining issues of our time, and it's easy to feel powerless in the face of such a massive issue. GlowHouse seeks to channel the fear and uncertainty many of us feel into a force for positive change, using our collective creativity and innovation to take action in our community. GlowHouse is seeking to specifically engage young people and their families in this work to help foster feelings of optimism and hope for the future.
The Problem
The Swap Shed is a Carlisle institution; it's hard to imagine the town without it. It's not only a space to offload those too-good-to-throw-away treasures, but also a place to meet and chat with friends and neighbors. Unfortunately, a large amount of the items left at the Swap Shed don't end up going to new homes, but instead are sent as large trash items, contributing to our planet's major waste problem. GlowHouse hopes that by revitalizing the Swap Shed and spreading awareness about how to responsibly reduce, reuse, and recycle our waste, we can create a more sustainable Carlisle.

The Vision
We aim to involve members of the community in revitalizing the Swap Shed building through environmental art projects using rescued and repurposed materials. We also seek to create educational opportunities around recycling, waste reduction, and material lifecycles. To learn more, check out the one-pager.
